Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer for our client in Klerksdorp, North West. The role focuses on safe, productive mining with cost-effective operations and continuous improvement. You will supervise operations, mentor engineers and collaborate with geologists and maintenance teams.

You will lead production planning, monitor performance metrics, and ensure compliance with mine plans and safety standards. Hybrid work balances on-site presence with planning and analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• 7–9 years of relevant mine operations experience.
• Experience in open pit and/or underground mining environments.
• Strong knowledge of mining equipment, operations, and productivity drivers.
• Familiar with mine planning software and production reporting systems.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage teams and drive performance.
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental best practices.
• Ability to work in a hybrid model and relocate to Klerksdorp.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily mining operations including production drilling, blasting, loading and hauling.
• Ensure safety and compliance with mine plans and regulations.
• Monitor performance metrics and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with geologists, surveyors and maintenance to optimize production.
• Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to boost productivity and reduce costs.
• Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments; ensure health and safety standards.
• Train and mentor junior mining engineers and shift supervisors.
• Assist in short- and medium-term mine production planning.
• Troubleshoot operational challenges and provide timely solutions.
• Contribute to overall operational strategy and capital project planning.
