Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Principal Mining Engineer for our Bloemfontein operations. This senior role provides technical leadership, ensuring safe and efficient mine planning, evaluating new technologies, and guiding major open-pit or underground projects.

You will lead a team of mining engineers, oversee complex designs, and ensure regulatory and environmental compliance while driving long-term strategic planning and performance improvements.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• Pr.Eng. registration with ECSA is required.
• 10–15 years of progressive mining engineering experience, with emphasis on planning and operations.
• Experience leading complex mining projects, preferably in the Free State or similar geology.
• Strong proficiency in mine planning/design software (Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, Datamine).
• Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and optimize mine designs and production plans.
• Provide expert guidance on mining methods, equipment selection, and efficiency.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new projects.
• Ensure compliance with mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental legislation.
• Oversee adoption of new mining technologies and innovations.
• Lead and mentor a team of mining engineers and technical staff.
• Conduct site assessments and recommend improvements.
• Manage external consultants and contractors as required.
• Contribute to long-term strategic mine planning.
• Promote a strong safety culture across all activities.
