Job summary
Placements24 seeks a Mine Geotechnical Engineer to ensure stability and safety of mining operations in Port Elizabeth. The role combines remote analysis with essential on-site assessments in Port Elizabeth and surrounding mine sites, adopting a hybrid work model.
You will evaluate ground conditions, design ground support systems, monitor slope stability, and integrate geotechnical recommendations into mine design to support production continuity and risk management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of mine geotechnical experience.
- Proficiency in Rocscience suite and FLAC for analysis.
- Strong knowledge of rock and soil mechanics.
- Experience with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring.
- Strong analytical, report writing and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Assess geological and geotechnical conditions to identify hazards.
- Design ground support for underground excavations and open pits.
- Conduct stability analyses for slopes, pits and workings.
- Monitor ground movement and instrumentation; analyze data.
- Develop geotechnical monitoring programs and protocols.
- Collaborate with mine planning to integrate recommendations.
