Job summary

Placements24 seeks a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its team in Polokwane, with a strong emphasis on the mining sector. You will assess ground conditions, design stable mine openings, waste dumps, and tailings facilities, and provide expert geotechnical guidance to ensure safe, efficient mining operations in Limpopo.

The role supports a hybrid work model, combining site-based collaboration with office-based specialists to deliver comprehensive geotechnical solutions.

Qualifications

• MSc or MEng in Geotechnical Engineering or Mining Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of geotechnical engineering experience with significant mining exposure.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations for mining infrastructure, including open pits and underground operations.
• Design and optimize stability for mine slopes, tailings dams, and waste rock facilities.
• Perform advanced numerical modeling for complex geotechnical scenarios in mining environments.
• Develop and implement ground support strategies for underground excavations.
• Provide expert advice on geotechnical risks and mitigation measures associated with mining activities.
• Liaise with mine managers, geologists, and other disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
