Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to support mining operations in Klerksdorp with a focus on stability of underground openings, pits, and slopes. The role combines on-site collaboration with remote analysis and reporting to suit North West's dynamic mining environment.

The candidate will conduct investigations, analyze data, and provide recommendations ensuring safety and efficiency of mining activities.

Qualifications

Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, specifically within the mining sector.
Strong knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and slope stability analysis.
Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., FLAC, Rocscience suite).
Experience with instrumentation and monitoring techniques.
Excellent report writing and communication skills, suitable for a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

Perform geotechnical investigations and analyze soil and rock mechanics data.
Assess the stability of underground mine openings, open pits, and slopes.
Design and implement ground support systems and measures to mitigate geotechnical risks.
Monitor the performance of structures and excavations using instrumentation and data analysis.
Provide technical recommendations and solutions to the mine planning and operations teams.
Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and design documentation.
