Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join a mining team near Klerksdorp. The role focuses on ensuring stability and safety of underground excavations, open pits and related infrastructure.

You will perform detailed investigations, analyze rock mass properties and provide recommendations to mitigate ground conditions risks. Requirements include an MSc/MEng in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology and a minimum of seven years in mining, with expertise in rock mechanics,

Qualifications

• MSc or MEng in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is required.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant mining experience.
• Proficiency in rock mechanics, slope stability analysis and ground support design; strong report writing and communication skills.

• Perform geotechnical site investigations, including logging boreholes and analyzing rock mass properties.
• Conduct stability analyses for underground excavations and open-pit slopes.
• Develop and implement ground support designs and monitoring programs.

This vital role focuses on ensuring the stability and safety of underground excavations, open pits, and associated infrastructure. You will conduct detailed geotechnical investigations, analyze rock mass characteristics, and provide engineering recommendations to mitigate risks associated with ground conditions. Key Responsibilities

• Assess risks associated with geological hazards such as seismicity, rockbursts, and slope failures.
• Provide geotechnical input for mine planning, design, and operational decision-making.
• Monitor geotechnical performance and recommend corrective actions.

Requirements

• MSc or MEng in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology.
