Placements24 is seeking a diligent Geotechnical Engineer to join a hybrid team in Centurion, SA. The role focuses on assessing ground conditions, designing slopes and underground excavations, and ensuring the safety of mining operations.

Ideal candidates hold a Civil/Geotechnical degree with 5+ years in mining geotechnical projects, and are proficient with Rocscience/GeoStudio. Collaboration with engineers and geologists is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of geotechnical engineering experience in mining.
• Proficient with field investigations and laboratory testing of soil and rock.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations (drilling, sampling, in-situ tests) to characterize conditions.
• Perform stability analyses for open-pit slopes and underground design.
• Develop geotechnical designs for supports, foundations and excavations.
• Oversee instrumentation and monitoring programs for safety and performance.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specifications and design documentation.
• Collaborate with mining engineers, geologists and construction teams on project execution.
