Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Quality and Grid Stability for a hybrid role based in Mahikeng, North West. You will monitor, analyze, and resolve power quality disturbances to support reliable grid operation.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems focus and at least 5 years’ experience, proficiency with PQView and Dranetz, and hands-on ability with PSS/E or ETAP.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in power system analysis with emphasis on power quality and grid stability.
• Experience with power quality monitoring equipment and analysis software (PQView, Dranetz).
• Strong understanding of power system dynamics, harmonics, and transient stability.
• Familiarity with PSS/E or ETAP for stability and harmonic studies.
• Knowledge of utility operations, grid codes, and industry standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and technical writing skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze power quality data from grid locations using monitoring equipment.
• Investigate and diagnose power quality issues such as voltage sags/swells, harmonics, flickers and transients.
• Develop and implement mitigation strategies to improve power quality and grid stability.
• Perform power system studies including harmonic analysis, load flow, and stability studies.
• Collaborate with protection and control engineers to ensure protection schemes do not affect power quality.
• Develop technical reports, recommendations, and standards related to power quality management.
• Stay updated on industry best practices, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in planning and design of grid infrastructure upgrades.
