Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for a hybrid role in Mahikeng, North West, SA. You will lead grid integration efforts, assess renewable energy connections, and design protection schemes to ensure stable, reliable power delivery.

The role emphasizes grid studies, transformer and switchgear design, and coordination with operators and project teams to advance South Africa's energy infrastructure. A Pr. Eng. is desirable, with strong analytical and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus.
• 8+ years of professional experience in electrical engineering with grid integration.
• Experience with power system studies using PSS/E, ETAP, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Knowledge of grid codes, protection systems, and substation design.
• Experience with renewable energy integration.

Responsibilities

• Conduct power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and harmonic analysis.
• Design and specify electrical systems for grid connection of renewable energy projects (solar, wind).
• Develop protection schemes and relay settings for substations and transmission lines.
• Evaluate the impact of distributed generation on grid stability and performance.
• Collaborate with project teams, grid operators, and other stakeholders on integration strategies.
• Develop technical specifications for electrical equipment, such as transformers, switchgear, and cables.
• Review designs and installations to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
• Troubleshoot electrical system issues and provide technical support.
• Contribute to the development of grid modernization and expansion plans.
• Mentor junior engineers and share technical expertise within the team.
