Position Overview
Our Client is looking for an experienced HR Generalist to support the HR function across employee relations, industrial relations, compliance, HR administration, recruitment and general employee support.
The successful candidate will work closely with management, line managers and employees to ensure consistent, fair and compliant HR practices across the organisation.
Key Performance Areas
Employee and Labour Relations
- Assist with resolving disputes between management, employees and labour unions
- Provide guidance to management and employees on HR and IR processes
- Support effective employee engagement and communication
Disciplinary and Grievance Management
- Coordinate disciplinary hearings and grievance processes
- Ensure processes are conducted timeously and in a procedurally and substantively fair manner
- Maintain accurate records of hearings, grievances, warnings and other IR matters
- Ensure consistency in the application of disciplinary procedures
HR Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable labour legislation, company policies and procedures
- Keep up to date with changes in labour legislation and industrial relations practices
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records
Policies and Procedures
- Assist with the development, implementation and review of HR policies and procedures
- Ensure policies remain aligned with legislative and organisational requirements
Training and Development
- Assist with developing and delivering HR-related training to management and employees
- Provide guidance to employees and line management on HR policies and procedures
Absenteeism Management
- Monitor and manage absenteeism in line with company policy
- Assist with consistent application of disciplinary procedures relating to absenteeism
- Maintain relevant records and reporting
Recruitment and Selection
- Assist with recruitment and selection processes as required
- Coordinate interviews, documentation and onboarding requirements
- Support effective employee placement and integration
Induction
- Assist with the induction of new employees
- Provide relevant HR and IR information during the induction process
Incident Investigations
- Assist management and supervisors with employee and workplace incident investigations
- Ensure investigations are conducted fairly, consistently and in accordance with company procedures
HR Administration and Contracts
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation
- Assist with the annual review of employment contracts
- Ensure employee information remains accurate and up to date
Reporting
- Compile and maintain accurate monthly HR and IR reports
- Ensure reporting is completed accurately and within required deadlines
- Provide relevant HR information and reporting to management
General HR Support
- Assist employees and line management with HR-related queries and processes
- Provide general HR support across the business
- Support the HR Manager with projects and duties in accordance with departmental objectives
Minimum Requirements
- NQF Level 6 qualification in Human Resources, Labour Law or a related field
- Minimum 8 years' experience in a similar HR Generalist / HR and IR position
- Strong experience in employee relations and industrial relations
- Good knowledge of South African labour legislation
- Experience handling disciplinary hearings, grievances and workplace investigations
- Experience supporting management and employees in a manufacturing or industrial environment would be advantageous
- Minimum 5 years' experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong administrative and organisational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal professionally with sensitive employee matters
