Job Summary:
The HR Generalist will be responsible for managing various human resources functions, including industrial relations and compliance, performance management, recruitment, training and development, employee engagement, and compliance with labour laws. The role will support the engineering and security divisions by implementing HR strategies that align with business objectives and enhance workforce effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
Industrial Relations & Compliance:
- Handling of disciplinary issues and processes
- Develop and maintain effective policies and procedures so that labour disputes and grievances are minimized
- Interpret and ensure compliance with South Africa's labour laws re-conditions of employment.
- Advise management of all legal requirements.
- Represent the company in legal hearings on labour issues, e.g. CCMA, Labour Department
- Make recommendations for changes to existing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with new or proposed government regulations.
- Handle dispute resolution and manage the grievance process.
- Establish and maintain good relationship with employees and management.
- Ensure that the disciplinary processes are enforced when necessary.
- Encourages ongoing conversation between the employees and employees in order to keep the work relationship healthy.
- Monitor internal labour trends ,sick leave trends ,conduct counselling and grievances and associated process.
- Ensure compliance with Bargaining Councils main agreements and other relevant legislation.
Performance Management & Employee Engagement:
- Coordinate performance review processes and provide coaching to managers.
- Assist in developing career development plans and succession planning.
- Promote a positive work culture through employee engagement initiatives.
- Address workplace challenges and enhance employee relations.
Strategic HR, Policy & Project Management:
- Implementation of HR strategy, policy, and HR projects across the supported divisions.
Recruitment & Talent Acquisition:
- Manage end-to-end recruitment processes for technical, security, and administrative roles.
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies to attract skilled professionals.
- Conduct interviews, assessments, and background verifications.
- Ensure a smooth onboarding process for new hires.
Training & Development:
- Identify training needs and coordinate learning programs for employees.
- Ensure compliance with industry-specific training requirements for engineering and security teams.
- Work with SETAs for skills development initiatives and discretionary grant applications.
HR Administration & Systems:
- Maintain accurate HR records, contracts, and personnel files.
- Oversee payroll inputs, leave management, and employee benefits administration.
- Utilize HR systems to track and report on key HR metrics.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- 3+ years of HR experience, preferably in the engineering or security sector.
- Strong knowledge of South African labour laws and HR best practices.
- Experience in handling industrial relations, CCMA cases, and union engagements.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems and recruitment tools.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
