Jobs 4 All is seeking a Field Service Workshop Technician to inspect, service, repair and test vacuum pumps, compressors and blowers in both workshop and customer sites in Durban. The role combines workshop repairs with field service, ensuring equipment meets quality and technical standards.

The candidate will perform on-site maintenance, fault-finding, commissioning and training, while travel across Africa may be required. A strong mechanical background and customer-focus are essential.

Qualifications

• Preference will be given to candidates with one of the following technical qualifications.
• National Diploma or Millwright trade indicates formal electrical/mechanical/mechatronics training.

Responsibilities

• Communicate professionally with customers verbally and via email.
• Liaise with customers in a professional and courteous manner.
• Grow the field service business, including securing active service contracts.
• Track previous services and follow up with customers regarding repeat servicing.
• Perform on-site problem solving.
• Install and repair vacuum pumps and systems on site.
• Travel within Africa when required; a valid passport is essential.
• Develop and implement strategies in collaboration with the sales team.
• Complete weekly and monthly reports on time.
• Develop relationships with technicians, engineers, maintenance managers, consultants, contractors, distributors and end users.
• Provide accurate and consistent feedback to management.

Job description

The Field Service & Workshop Technician is responsible for the inspection, servicing, repair, overhaul, assembly, testing and commissioning of vacuum pumps, compressors and blowers across a variety of industrial applications.
This is a hybrid technical position requiring the successful candidate to work both in the workshop and at customer sites.
Within the workshop, the technician will be responsible for complete repairs, overhauls and assembly of vacuum pumps and blowers, ensuring equipment is restored according to the required company quality and technical standards.
In the field, the technician will independently perform preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, servicing, commissioning, fault-finding and technical inspections on vacuum pumps, compressors and blowers.

Qualifications & Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with one of the following technical qualifications:

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
• National Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering
• Millwright Trade
• Experience in end-user repairs and/or technical knowledge of air compressors is essential.
• Experience with medical gas installations will be advantageous.
• Additional advantageous experience includes vacuum pumps, blowers, valves, measuring instrumentation, leak detectors or other industrial equipment used within the food processing, automotive, chemical and pharmaceutical, plastics, medical, water and wastewater industries.
