Placements24 is seeking a compassionate Family Support Officer to work remotely with families in the Port Elizabeth area, Eastern Cape. You will provide direct support, conduct assessments, and develop tailored intervention plans to strengthen family wellbeing.

Responsibilities include facilitating workshops, linking families to community resources, and coordinating with educators and healthcare providers. The role emphasizes strong communication, empathy, and independent remote work

Qualifications

• Must have a relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Child and Family Studies or related field.
• Experience supporting families directly in a social services context is preferred.
• Strong understanding of family dynamics and child development is essential.

About the Role

Our client, a community-focused organization dedicated to strengthening families, is looking for a compassionate and skilled Family Support Officer to join their team remotely, serving the Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape region. Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct support and guidance to families in need through virtual and, where necessary, in-person sessions.

• Facilitate workshops and group sessions on topics such as parenting, communication, and stress management.
• Connect families with relevant community resources and services in the Eastern Cape .
• Offer crisis intervention and support during challenging family situations.
• Maintain confidential case files and prepare progress reports.
• Collaborate with other professionals, such as educators and healthcare providers, to ensure coordinated care.
• Advocate for the needs of families within the community.
• Participate in regular team meetings and case reviews, contributing to a collaborative approach.

Requirements

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Child and Family Studies, or a related field.
• Previous experience working directly with families in a support or case management capacity.
• Strong understanding of child development, family systems, and common challenges faced by families.
• Excellent communication, active listening, and empathetic engagement skills.
• Proficiency in using digital communication tools (video conferencing, email, etc.) for remote service delivery.
• Ability to assess needs, develop intervention plans, and manage caseloads effectively.
• Knowledge of local resources and services available in Port Elizabeth and the Eastern Cape .
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
