Placements24 is seeking an Energy Storage Systems Engineer to join our Bloemfontein team. You will design, develop, and implement battery energy storage systems (BESS) for grid-tied, commercial, and industrial projects, focusing on system architecture, component selection, and performance optimization.

You will lead control strategies, ensure safety and reliability, and collaborate with project managers, procurement, and installation partners across South Africa.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in design/engineering of energy storage systems or power electronics.
• Strong knowledge of battery chemistries (Li-ion), BMS, and inverters.
• Familiarity with grid codes, interconnection standards, and utility requirements for ESS.
• Experience with simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, PSS/E) and CAD software.
• Understanding of renewable energy integration and grid interaction.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a team environment.
• Understanding of the South African energy market is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Design and engineer energy storage systems, including battery selection, power conversion, and balance of plant.
• Develop system specifications, P&IDs, and single-line diagrams for BESS installations.
• Perform energy yield and economic analysis for storage projects.
• Collaborate with project managers, procurement teams, and installation partners.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE and other safety standards.
• Develop control strategies and algorithms for battery operation and grid interaction.
• Troubleshoot technical issues during commissioning and operation.
• Stay current with battery tech, power electronics and storage applications.
• Prepare design reports, test procedures, and operation manuals.
