Job summary

Placements24 seeks an Energy Storage Systems Specialist in Polokwane to design, integrate, and optimize battery energy storage solutions for grid-scale, commercial, and industrial use. You will develop BESS architectures, evaluate components, and collaborate with engineers and project managers to deliver reliable energy storage systems.

The role requires strong knowledge of battery chemistries, PCS, and BMS, plus experience in simulation and control development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in the design, deployment, or operation of energy storage systems.
• Strong understanding of battery chemistries, power conversion systems (PCS), and battery management systems (BMS).
• Familiarity with grid interconnection requirements and energy market operations.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer battery energy storage systems (BESS), including component selection, system architecture, and integration strategies.
• Develop control strategies and algorithms for BESS to optimize performance for various applications (e.g., peak shaving, frequency regulation, renewable energy integration).
• Conduct technical feasibility studies and site assessments for proposed BESS installations.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and software developers to ensure seamless system integration.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to BESS hardware, software, and control systems.
• Stay current with advancements in battery technology, power electronics, and energy storage market trends.
