Placements24 is partnered with a forward-thinking engineering consultancy seeking an Electrical Systems Designer for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will design electrical systems for renewable energy, industrial facilities and commercial developments, with emphasis on detail, standards compliance, and energy efficiency.

The role requires 6+ years of experience and proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit MEP, with a strong foundation in power system analysis and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical systems design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP for electrical design.
• Strong understanding of power system analysis, protection, and control.
• Experience with renewable energy systems design (solar PV, battery storage) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, earthing, and surge protection.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Specify electrical components, equipment, and materials, ensuring compatibility and performance.
• Conduct energy efficiency studies and recommend sustainable design solutions.
• Perform calculations for load, fault current, voltage drop, and other electrical parameters.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, IEC, and other relevant industry standards and regulations.
• Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Prepare Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and technical specifications for tender purposes.
• Review shop drawings and respond to technical queries from site teams or contractors.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and best practices in electrical system design.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client liaison.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a remote setting.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is a significant advantage.
