About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding firm specializing in renewable energy solutions, is seeking a motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Pretoria, Gauteng . This role is crucial for the design and development of large-scale solar and wind power projects across South Africa. You will be involved in all phases of the project lifecycle, from initial feasibility studies and conceptual design to detailed engineering and grid connection studies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of power systems, particularly those related to renewable energy generation, and have experience with relevant design software. This position requires on-site presence in Pretoria to collaborate effectively with project managers, site engineers, and external stakeholders. We are looking for an individual passionate about sustainable energy and committed to delivering innovative electrical designs that contribute to a greener future for Gauteng and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical systems for solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbine projects, including AC/DC systems, grid connection, and protection.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and layout drawings using CAD software.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow, fault analysis, and harmonic distortion analysis.
• Specify electrical equipment such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, and cables.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with a significant focus on renewable energy projects (solar or wind).
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, PSS/E, or similar.
• Solid understanding of power system analysis, protection schemes, and grid integration principles for renewable energy sources.
• Knowledge of relevant South African electrical standards and regulations.
• Experience with inverters, transformers, and switchgear used in utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage project timelines effectively.
• Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Candidate Engineer is an advantage.
