Key Responsibilities

Lead the electrical design and engineering for utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind farm projects. Conduct grid interconnection studies, including load flow, short circuit, and stability analysis. Develop electrical single-line diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications for power plants. Select and specify balance-of-plant equipment, including inverters, transformers, switchgear, and cabling. Oversee the electrical aspects of project execution, from feasibility studies through to commissioning and handover. Ensure designs comply with all relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations (e.g. IEC, IEEE, NRS). Collaborate with project managers, site engineers, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project integration. Provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior electrical engineers within the team. Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical engineering challenges encountered during project development and operation. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in renewable energy technologies and grid integration practices.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 3 years focused on renewable energy projects (solar PV or wind). Strong understanding of power system analysis and simulation tools (e.g. PSS/E, ETAP, PVsyst). Knowledge of grid codes, utility interconnection requirements, and energy storage systems. Experience with electrical component selection, including inverters, transformers, and medium-voltage switchgear. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams. Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is a significant advantage. Must be eligible to work in South Africa .
