Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Project Engineer to join our Pretoria team. You will lead electrical design, installation and commissioning for utility-scale solar and wind projects, ensuring safety, quality and performance standards.

The role requires a strong background in HV systems, grid interconnection and project management, with hybrid work and site travel. Pr.Eng/ECSA registration is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 6+ years in electrical engineering project management within renewable energy.
• Experience with design, installation and commissioning of high-voltage systems.
• Knowledge of power electronics, grid interconnection standards and protection systems.
• Proficiency with electrical design software and simulation tools.
• Hybrid work environment with travel to project sites around Pretoria.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Develop schematics, single-line diagrams and equipment specifications for solar PV and wind plants.
• Manage electrical scope of work for EPC contractors, ensuring timelines and budgets.
• Oversee procurement of electrical equipment including inverters, transformers and switchgear.
• Conduct site inspections and QA during construction and commissioning in Gauteng.
• Perform load calculations, fault studies and grid connection studies.
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety regulations and interconnection standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams and grid operators/regulators.
• Provide technical support through project lifecycle.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent developer and operator of renewable energy facilities, is actively seeking a Senior Electrical Project Engineer to join their growing team in Pretoria, Gauteng . This role is crucial for managing the electrical aspects of large-scale solar and wind energy projects from conception through to commercial operation. You will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical designs, installations, and commissioning activities meet stringent quality, safety, and performance standards. The position offers a dynamic work environment with a hybrid model, allowing for both on-site project involvement and remote flexibility, situated strategically in Pretoria . Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering efforts for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications for solar PV and wind power plants.
• Manage electrical scope of work for EPC contractors, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical engineering project management, with a focus on renewable energy (solar or wind).
• Demonstrated experience in the design, installation, and commissioning of high-voltage electrical systems.
• Strong understanding of power electronics, grid interconnection standards, and protection systems for renewable energy.
• Proficiency in using electrical design software and simulation tools.
• Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment and travel to project sites in and around Pretoria .
• Experience with SCADA systems for renewable energy plants is a plus.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or ECSA registration is highly desirable.
