Placements24 seeks an Electrical Design Engineer to lead electrical design for utility-scale solar PV and battery storage in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will create single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specs, collaborating with development, engineering, and construction teams to ensure project delivery.

The role requires a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and 5+ years in renewable energy design, with strong knowledge of grid interconnection and protection practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design for renewable energy projects (solar PV and/or BESS).
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, PVSyst, or similar.
• Solid understanding of power system analysis, grounding, and protection principles.
• Knowledge of grid interconnection standards and practices.
• Experience with energy storage systems and battery technologies is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment in the Western Cape.
• Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Technologist is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical design calculations and simulations for solar PV and BESS projects.
• Develop detailed single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Specify electrical equipment including inverters, transformers, switchgear, and cables.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international electrical codes and standards (IEC, NRS).
• Collaborate with grid operators on interconnection studies and requirements.
• Review and approve electrical designs from third-party contractors.
• Provide electrical engineering support during construction and commissioning phases.
• Assist in preparation of technical proposals and tender documents.
• Conduct site visits for design verification and troubleshooting in Mossel Bay.
• Stay updated on advancements in renewable energy technologies.
