Job summary

Placements24 seeks an innovative Electrical Design Engineer to join our client in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. The role focuses on designing and developing solar PV and battery energy storage systems, from concept through commissioning, in a hybrid work setup.

The successful candidate will have 3–5 years of renewable energy design experience, strong knowledge of power electronics and grid connection requirements, and proficiency in AutoCAD and PVSyst.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of professional experience in electrical design for renewable energy (solar PV, BESS).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst or similar software.
• Strong understanding of power electronics, AC/DC systems and grid connection requirements.
• Knowledge of battery energy storage system technologies and their integration.
• Familiarity with South African electrical standards and grid codes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical systems for solar PV and battery storage projects.
• Develop electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring layouts using CAD software.
• Perform load calculations, component sizing, and system performance analysis.
• Specify electrical equipment including inverters, transformers, switchgear and battery modules.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, codes and safety regulations (e.g., NRS, IEC).
• Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments for renewable energy projects.
• Collaborate with project managers, procurement teams and construction personnel.
• Provide technical support during procurement, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Stay updated on advancements in renewable energy technologies and grid integration practices.
