Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join our client in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. You will lead electrical design and engineering for renewable energy projects, including solar PV and battery storage, with a focus on grid integration and safety.

You will mentor junior staff, review designs, and ensure quality and compliance with IEC and SANS standards. A Master’s in Electrical Engineering and 8+ years’ experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or Renewable Energy.
• 8+ years in electrical design with at least 3 years in a lead/senior role in renewables.
• Proven design experience for solar PV and energy storage systems.
• Knowledge of grid codes and safety standards (IEC, SANS).
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and engineering for renewables (solar PV, storage).
• Develop detailed schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment specs.
• Perform load flow, fault, and interconnection studies.
• Ensure designs comply with grid codes and standards (IEC, SANS).
• Oversee equipment selection and procurement (inverters, transformers, switchgear, batteries).
• Mentor and guide a team of engineers and designers.
• Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and external stakeholders.
• Conduct design reviews, site assessments, and support construction/commissioning.
• Stay updated on regulatory changes and support proposals/technical sales.
