Job summary
Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for Mossel Bay, Western Cape to lead the design and optimisation of electrical systems for solar and wind projects. You will drive the entire design lifecycle, from feasibility to construction support, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact renewable energy solutions.
The role requires a strong grasp of power systems, grid integration, and protection schemes, with experience in grid-tied setups and energy storage
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design, with renewable energy exposure.
- Experience with grid-tied systems and power electronics.
- Proficiency in electrical design/simulation software (PSS/E, ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical, PVsyst).
- Understanding of protection and control schemes; energy storage knowledge a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems for renewable energy projects (solar and wind).
- Prepare schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring schedules, and equipment specs.
- Perform power system analyses (load flow, short circuit, stability) for grid-connected systems.
- Support procurement, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Collaborate with civil engineers, project managers, and environmental consultants.
- Stay updated on industry standards and best practices.
