Job summary

Protea Hotels by Marriott is seeking a dedicated Kitchen Associate to join our Food & Beverage team in Pretoria. You will support daily food preparation, portioning, and cooking to meet our recipes, quality, and presentation standards.

This entry-level role requires basic food-handling skills, a high school diploma, and at least one year of related experience. You will operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers while maintaining safety, hygiene, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food.
• Wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist.
• Operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers.
• Test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently.
• Monitor food quality while preparing food.
• Set-up and break down work station.
• Follow safety policies and procedures; report hazards to manager.
