Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Information Security Engineer specializing in Cloud Security to join our cybersecurity team in a Cape Town-based role. This remote-first position allows work from anywhere in South Africa while contributing to a globally recognized organization.

You will architect, implement and manage security controls across AWS, Azure, and GCP, develop policies, conduct risk assessments, and ensure regulatory compliance in a dynamic cloud landscape.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in CS/IT.
• 4+ years in cloud security engineering with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Solid knowledge of cloud security principles, best practices and services.
• Experience with IaC tools and security automation.
• Familiarity with containers and their security implications.
• Experience with security monitoring and incident response in cloud environments.
• Cloud security certifications are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage security controls for cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Develop and enforce cloud security policies, standards, and procedures.
• Conduct security assessments and audits of cloud environments; identify risks and mitigation strategies.
• Implement and manage cloud security tools such as WAF, security groups, IAM, and key management services.
• Monitor cloud environments for security threats and incidents; respond to breaches.
• Collaborate with cloud engineering and DevOps teams to integrate security into the CI/CD pipeline.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging cloud security threats and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with relevant data privacy and security regulations (POPIA, GDPR).
• Develop and deliver security awareness training for cloud-related topics.
• Automate security tasks and processes using scripting and orchestration tools.
• Provide expert guidance on cloud security architecture and design.
