Qualifications

  • 7+ years of mine surveying experience in open-pit and underground environments.
  • Proficiency with total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, laser scanners, and AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Strong geodetic knowledge and coordinate systems for mining.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to work in field and office in Port Elizabeth.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain primary survey control networks across the mine site.
  • Conduct topographic surveys, volumetric calculations, and deformation monitoring.
  • Process survey data and produce maps and reports with advanced software.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of survey data for planning and operations.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Chief Surveyor to lead their surveying operations supporting extensive mining activities in Port Elizabeth. This pivotal role ensures the accurate measurement, mapping, and monitoring of mine sites, crucial for planning, development, and resource management. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining survey control, managing survey data, and ensuring the integrity of all spatial information related to the mine. The successful candidate will employ advanced surveying technologies and methodologies to provide precise data for engineering, geology, and production departments, contributing significantly to the safe and efficient operation of the Eastern Cape mining facilities. This hybrid role offers a blend of fieldwork and office-based analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain primary survey control networks for the entire mine site, including underground and surface areas.
  • Conduct topographic surveys, volumetric calculations, and deformation monitoring.
  • Manage and process survey data using advanced software, producing accurate maps and reports.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all survey data used for mine planning and operations.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of survey technicians and assistants.
  • Liaise with geological, engineering, and production teams to provide essential survey support.
Requirements
  • National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Surveying or Geomatics.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in mine surveying, with significant experience in open-pit and underground environments.
  • Proficiency with total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, laser scanners, and associated survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, surveying-specific packages).
  • Strong understanding of geodetic principles and coordinate systems relevant to mining.
  • Excellent data management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to work effectively in both field and office settings in Port Elizabeth.
