Job summary

Pick n Pay in Gauteng is seeking an experienced Bakery Department Manager to lead daily production, manage stock, and drive profitability while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, planning schedules, and ensuring product freshness and availability across all bakery offerings. The role requires strong customer service, problem-solving skills, and adherence to company policies.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
• A qualification in Bakery Management, Food Technology, or related field will be an advantage.
• Minimum of 2–3 years' experience in a bakery environment, preferably in a supervisory or management role.
• Strong knowledge of bakery products, ingredients, baking processes, and production techniques.
• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and health and safety regulations.
• Experience in stock control, ordering, receiving, and managing wastage.
• Ability to manage staff, prepare work schedules, and monitor performance.
• Good numerical, administrative, and reporting skills.
• Computer literacy and experience with retail systems will be an advantage.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, where required.
• Good communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
• Manage daily bakery production and operations.
• Ensure product quality, freshness, and availability.
• Supervise, train, and motivate bakery staff.
• Monitor stock levels, ordering, and stock rotation.
• Minimise waste and control operating costs.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards.
• Monitor sales performance and achieve sales targets.
• Ensure attractive product displays and excellent customer service.
• Maintain accurate production, stock, and waste records.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
