Job summary

Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town, seeks an Assistant Maintenance Manager to steward the hotel’s facilities and infrastructure, ensuring luxury service and optimal operation. You will lead the maintenance team, coordinate with the Chief Engineer, and drive initiatives across mechanical, electrical, and safety domains.

You will manage spare parts, inventories, and project work, while upholding high standards of quality and guest satisfaction in a premium hospitality setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years' managerial experience in related field.
• Relevant technical qualifications.
• Experience in a luxury hospitality environment is advantageous.
• Experience with contractor scheduling and small project management.
• General knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Kitchen and related trades.
• Working knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance, generators, pumps, air-conditioning, refrigeration and solar plants.
• Thorough understanding of procurement principles and inventory management.

Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule maintenance programmes for buildings, plant and equipment in conjunction with the Chief Engineer.
• Implement preventative maintenance for heavy machinery, air conditioning, and specialised equipment.
• Oversee ordering and distribution of spare parts, tools and maintenance supplies.
• Manage inventory to ensure critical items are available for emergencies.
• Supervise maintenance tasks and ensure timely issue resolution.
• Evaluate work by the maintenance team and external contractors for quality.
• Support health and safety standards and address audit items promptly.
• Process guest, management and staff requests promptly.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify improvement opportunities.
• Monitor maintenance team performance against departmental standards.
