A. Basic Purpose
The Youth Program Assistant assists the Corps Program Assistant with coordinating and implementing youth ministries for the Roseville Corps. This role provides leadership in youth development and outreach programs, including planning, resource management, volunteer training, and ensuring program standards are met. The assistant works to develop outreach opportunities to attract new members from the community and collaborates within the ministry team.
B. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for parents interested in youth programs.
- Plan, teach, and lead Sunday school classes using approved curricula.
- Ensure attendance is recorded at all youth events.
- Follow up with children and families who have been absent.
- Communicate about children’s ministries through newsletters and other channels.
- Organize special events such as outreach activities, holiday plays, and community drives.
- Coordinate transportation for youth programs.
- Assist in the planning of worship arts and other youth activities.
- Maintain supplies and organize resources for youth programs.
- Lead the planning and execution of Vacation Bible School, including recruitment and promotion.
- Promote youth participation in divisional and territorial events.
- Attend youth ministry training to stay current with trends and techniques.
- Lead chapel sessions and Bible teachings for children in various programs.
General Duties
- Assist in child safety training and record keeping.
- Support troop leaders and coordinate youth-related resources.
- Participate as a troop leader when needed.
- Support other arts, music, and community events.
- Assist with summer camp registration and activities.
- Engage with youth in community centers and programs.
- Attend meetings and events as required.
- Support fundraising activities such as the Christmas Kettle program.
- Organize youth groups and provide homework and tutoring support.
- Assist with holiday events and community outreach efforts.
C. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications
- Preferred BA/BS; at least 2-3 years in youth program development.
- Proficient in English, with strong communication skills.
- Criminal background check and PTM training required; First Aid/CPR preferred.
- Strong computer skills, data tracking, and report generation.
- Experience working with youth in educational or recreational settings.
- Strong math and English skills (K-12).
- High school diploma required; 2+ years youth ministry experience preferred.
- Knowledge of youth and spiritual development.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team.
D. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid California Class C Driver License and ability to operate Salvation Army vehicles.
- Must be 21 or older.
- Completion of Salvation Army vehicle training required.
E. Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform physical activities such as sitting, walking, lifting up to 70 lbs, and operating office equipment.
- Must be able to operate a computer and communicate effectively.
