Job description

The Salvation Army Mission Statement:

BASIC PURPOSE:

The Corps Program Assistant will assist the Corps Officers with coordinating and implementing youth ministries at the Roseville Corps. This includes leadership for youth development and outreach programs, planning, resource management, volunteer training, and program implementation according to Salvation Army standards. The role involves developing outreach opportunities to attract new community members, managing the afterschool tutoring and mentoring program, overseeing budgets, participating in staff development, and collaborating with offsite partners. The coordinator will ensure a safe, nurturing environment, serve as a liaison with parents, volunteers, and donors, and promote a positive image of the program. Responsibilities also include planning educational environments, establishing interest centers, preparing materials, collecting and reporting data, and fostering a positive, fun atmosphere to increase membership and community engagement. The position functions within the ministry team of the Corps.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Serve as the first contact for parents interested in youth programs.
  2. Plan, teach, and lead Sunday school classes using approved curricula.
  3. Ensure attendance is recorded at all youth activities.
  4. Follow up with absent children and families.
  5. Communicate about children’s ministries through newsletters and meetings.
  6. Organize special events such as outreach, back-to-school drives, and holiday performances.
  7. Coordinate transportation for youth to and from programs.
  8. Assist in planning and executing the ENCORE worship arts program.
  9. Maintain youth ministry supplies and resources.
  10. Plan and oversee Vacation Bible School activities and logistics.
  11. Promote and facilitate youth participation in divisional and territorial events.
  12. Attend youth ministry trainings to stay current on trends.
  13. Lead chapel sessions and provide Bible teaching for children.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
General Duties:
  1. Assist with child safety training and record keeping.
  2. Support troop leaders with resources and reporting.
  3. Serve as a troop leader if needed.
  4. Coordinate with the Cadet Counselor and Bible Bowl Coaches.
  5. Organize arts, music, and special event programs.
  6. Assist with summer camp registration.
  7. Engage with youth through community activities.
  8. Attend meetings and events as required.
  9. Support the Christmas Kettle program.
  10. Plan weekly youth group activities.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.
  12. Maintain and submit statistical reports.
  13. Recruit and oversee volunteers.
Qualifications:
  1. Minimum of 2 years college and 2 years youth work experience.
  2. Proficiency in English, confidentiality, and familiarity with Salvation Army youth programs.
  3. Excellent communication, organizational, and social media skills.
  4. Strong personal faith commitment; Salvation Army membership or eligibility preferred.
  5. Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
Education & Experience:
  1. High School diploma or equivalent; AA degree preferred.
  2. At least 2 years in youth ministry.
  3. Christian maturity and knowledge of youth and spiritual development.
  4. Membership as a Salvation Army soldier within 6 months of employment.
  5. Effective communication and organizational skills.
  6. Ability to prioritize, adapt, and work in a team environment.
  7. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Certificates & Licenses:
  1. Valid California Class C Driver License; Class B with passenger endorsement preferred.
  2. Must pass DOT physical and background checks.
  3. Complete Salvation Army vehicle training.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Ability to perform physical activities such as sitting, walking, lifting up to 70 lbs., and operating office equipment.
  2. Valid Class B driver’s license required.
