Job summary

The YMCA of Delaware is seeking a School Age Aide to supervise children and oversee daily activities in a safe, supportive environment. You will help with feeding, social-emotional support, and guiding children through routines such as meals and transitions.

Role emphasizes positive behavior management, observation of progress, and collaboration with staff to deliver developmentally appropriate activities. Minimum age requirements and background checks apply; multilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old (or 15 if in a qualifying program)
• Must be at least four years older than any child in direct care
• Background checks including criminal, child abuse & adult abuse as required by Delaware
• Excellent active listening skills to understand and adapt to needs of children and parents
• Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children

Responsibilities

• Supervise children, groups, and activities with safe, developmentally appropriate practices
• Provide daily care including feeding and supporting social/emotional needs
• Engage children in classroom activities including instructional times and transitions
• Implement positive behavior management techniques
• Assist in planning and participating in daily age-appropriate activities
• Observe children and document progress and development
