Job summary

The YMCA of Delaware is seeking a School Age Intern to support youth programming in a supervised setting. You will participate in daily care, supervise activities, and assist with classroom planning to promote healthy development for school-age children.

Rate of pay is $15.00 per hour, with eligibility-based retirement and professional development opportunities. Candidates must meet licensing requirements and complete background checks as required by Delaware regulations.

Qualifications

• Must work under the direct supervision of a School Age Assistant and follow Delacare rules.
• At least four years older than any child in direct care.
• Complete physical and TB screening with physician documentation within 30 days of hire.
• Criminal history, child and adult abuse background checks required by Delaware.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children and activities using safe, healthy practices.
• Provide daily care including feeding and supporting social/emotional needs.
• Engage children in classroom activities and transitions.
• Implement positive behavior management techniques.
• Assist in planning and participating in age-appropriate activities.
• Observe and document children’s progress and development.
• Communicate with coworkers, branch administration, and parents to foster collaboration.
• Keep facility and equipment clean, safe, and well-maintained.
• Complete attendance, meal counts, and parent communications documentation.
• Attend family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and professional development.
