Job summary

South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is seeking an Operational Support Sergeant to coordinate security functions, conduct inspections, and support emergency preparedness. The role emphasizes safety, accountability, and positive youth development within a structured facility environment.

Under supervision, you will supervise key/custody tasks, staff coordination, and movement of youth, while performing related duties to uphold DJJ’s mission and values.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• CLEE certification within 6 months of employment.
• 80% competency/proficiency exam required.
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to operate a state vehicle.
• Knowledge of state laws and rules for youth confinement.

Responsibilities

• Oversee facility key and tool control programs for accountability and security.
• Maintain inventories, conduct audits, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.
• Plan and conduct facility inspections, shake-downs, searches, and contraband interdiction.
