Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) seeks a Sergeant to supervise and train Juvenile Correctional Officers within a secure facility. You will help maintain safety, rehabilitation and orderly operations for at‑risk youth, while promoting positive youth development.

Expect to lead shift operations, coordinate staff coverage, and support crisis intervention while adhering to agency policies and state law. A strong emphasis on leadership and mentoring is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Must be certified under CLEE within six months of employment.
• Must have 80% competency/proficiency and possess supervisor and teaching skills.
• Knowledge of state laws, rules, and procedures for youth containment.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and direct Juvenile Correctional Officers to provide a safe, secure environment.
• Engage with youth to ensure safety, rehabilitation, and well‑being.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to new security staff.
