FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, MI, is seeking a seasoned Risk Manager to lead the workers’ compensation program and advance safety initiatives across the casino and hotel properties.

Starting range of $66,123.20 - $81,016.00 per year, with opportunities for annual increases.
Director of Risk Management
Responsible for overseeing the worker’s compensation program including, maintaining and managing the program, claims investigation for Medical Only Claims and assisting the Director of Risk Management with Lost Time Claims, settlement and litigation in Tribal Court. Responsible forevaluating and reducing loss exposures, assessing liability andthe development of internal controls for an effective Risk and Safety program. Also responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable insurance laws, health and safety regulations, OSHA standards and all applicable Federal, Tribal, State and Local Laws under the guidance of the Director of Risk Management. Position will also provide continuity of operations for a seamless transition between leadership within Risk Management.
The following is a list of the main duties and responsibilities. However, other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by management. All duties must be performed in accordance with Tribal, Federal, and other applicable requirements, organizational specific policies, procedures and practices.
An applicant’s education, training and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the ability to successfully perform each of the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. Proficiency in both written and verbal English communication is required.
Six years combination of education and claims adjuster experience, preferably in worker’s compensation claims. Experience to include claims management,negotiation and settlement of claims, to include worker’s compensation and personal injury claims and the ability to distinguish potentiallyhazardous situations from regular conditions in the workplace. Excellent communication and organizational skills.Ability to obtain Certified Workers Compensation Professional certification (CWCP) and OSHA 10 Hour certification within six months. Must be insurable to company standards in order to operate a company vehicle or drive on company behalf. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Preferably Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field from a four‑year college or university; or five years’ direct experience in Occupational Health and Safety, three years management experience including training and OSHA 30 Hour certification.
Strong working background in identifying safety problems andsolutions, familiarity with emergency response plans, and ensuring compliance for appropriate regulatory standards.
A proficient understanding of workers’ compensation laws, to include MI and Tribal laws applicable to medical and lost time claims, nurse case management, light duty programs, and Medicare set aside. Strong knowledge of general liability and property insurance programs as a self-insured to include all-lines aggregate programs, builders' risk, cyber, personal injuries and ADA laws and overall Risk Management functions. Well versed in settling of all claims.
Successful completion of any of the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Training programs. WEEA Certified.
