Job summary

Cuyahoga Community College is seeking a Work Study student for the CCP & Early College Programs to support student services across college facilities. Responsibilities include mentoring CCP students, handling basic tech questions, and helping connect students with appropriate services.

Position is college-wide, on-site and may include hybrid options. The role emphasizes developing communication, mentoring, and event coordination skills while maintaining academic progress and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Learn and have a working knowledge of college technologies (My Tri‑C Space, Brightspace) and assist students with general technical questions.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong communication and professional skills.
  • Learn useful skills in mentoring, customer service, and planning events.
  • Work with students from different backgrounds and share advice on how to succeed in college.
  • Get familiar with college tools like My Tri‑C Space and Brightspace and help students with basic tech questions such as logging in, using email, or finding information on Tri‑C’s website.
  • Learn how to understand what students need and connect them with the right college services, academic departments, and resources for CCP students.
  • Grow more confident in helping students deal with emotional challenges and understand college rules and processes, especially when signing up for classes or handling course schedules and enrollment.
  • Tri‑C students who participated in CCP and are interested in working with current CCP (secondary) students enrolled at Tri‑C; their success post‑CCP will inspire hope and foster a sense of belonging for current CCP students.
  • Services may be provided in person at select campus locations, virtually, or using a hybrid approach.
  • Develop professional skills and communication skills.
  • Gain transferable skills in peer mentorship, customer service, and event coordination.
  • Work with diverse populations and provide tips on being a successful student.
  • Learn and have a working knowledge of college technologies (My Tri‑C Space, Brightspace, etc.) and assist students with general technical questions regarding student login, student email, or navigating Tri‑C’s website.
  • Become adept at interpreting student needs and linking them to appropriate early college, student, and academic services, academic schools, and resources available to CCP students.
  • Increase confidence in assisting students with navigating and working through emotional barriers associated with college processes and policies that may arise when enrolling, scheduling, and taking courses.
  • Consistently maintain 6 credit hours each semester.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Adhere to the College’s confidentiality policy.
  • Successfully pass background and drug screening.
  • Answer phone and take messages.
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, data entry, copying, and faxing.
  • Open and sort mail.
  • Show strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn new technology.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

First Jennings Near Peer Mentors are Tri‑C students who were part of the College Credit Plus (CCP) program and now want to help current CCP students who are taking classes at Tri‑C. By sharing their own success stories, these mentors can inspire and help new CCP students feel more connected and confident. Mentors may work in person at certain campus locations, online, or in a mix of both.
