Job summary

State of Nebraska - Transportation Agency 27 is hiring winter temporary Highway Maintenance Workers for Norfolk & Surrounding Areas. The role will support snow removal, respond to emergencies, operate heavy equipment, and perform roadside maintenance.

CDL eligibility is required, with additional endorsements needed within 60 days for senior roles. Positions run through March 31, 2027, with potential for extended seasonal work.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Senior role requires Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days of employment.
• Preferred qualifications include a valid Class A or B CDL and prior heavy equipment experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming and winter snow removal tasks.
• Respond to highway emergencies as needed.
• Move, drag, lift, and load equipment, materials, and hazardous objects within weight limits.
• Spread and tamp surfacing materials and maintain road surfaces.
• Be available for out-of-town travel and report to work outside scheduled hours during emergencies.
