Job summary

The State of Nebraska is hiring winter temporary Highway Maintenance Workers across Norfolk and surrounding areas, including Plainview. Positions involve snow removal, equipment operation, and roadside maintenance in variable weather and hours.

Starting pay is $20.39 per hour; CDL holders start at $21.953. Out-of-town travel may be required, with shifts potentially exceeding 40 hours per week in winter conditions.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 for Highway Maintenance Worker.
• Minimum age 20 for Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior with CDL.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements required within 60 days.
• Preferred: CDL Class A or B and heavy equipment experience.
• May require out of town travel and willingness to report for emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform snow removal.
• Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming.
• Respond to highway emergencies.
• Move, load, and unload equipment and materials within weight restrictions.
• Spread and tamp surfacing materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
