This position serves in a leadership capacity to oversee the development, implementation, and administration of policies, procedures, standards, training, and technical support for the Northeast Region's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition services, clinic operations, and special programs. Reporting directly to the WIC Program Director, the incumbent will work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders to define and execute New Mexico's WIC program strategic direction.

This position exists to serve as the operational and strategic leader for the NE Region, bridging the gap between state-level WIC policies and daily clinic operations. By combining advanced programmatic expertise with comprehensive personnel management, the role ensures regulatory compliance, workforce stability, and the efficient delivery of nutrition services and special programs. Ultimately, this leader acts as a critical decision-maker who independently upholds policies in the field, optimizes clinic workflows, and resolves complex conflicts to uphold the integrity and strategic direction of New Mexico's WIC State Plan.

How does it get done?

The key responsibilities of this position are to oversee regional WIC operations, manage nine clinics, personnel of 22, optimize administrative systems, and drive the strategic alignment of the program. Specifically, manage caseload, develops and enforces WIC policies, and delivers necessary staff training and technical support. Additionally, they manage the full employee life-cycle¿including hiring, performance evaluation, while continuously analyzing clinic workflows to improve service delivery and utilizing strong conflict-resolution skills to handle complex stakeholder complaints.

WIC clients, WIC State office, field staff, regional and community partners and Food and Nutrition Administration.

Bachelor's degree in a social, community, health, education, or nutritional field and five (5) years of experience in WIC or other experience in food service, dietetics, or other health field, and two (2) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eleven (11) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal and extensive personal computer and telephone usage. It can require extended periods of sitting or traveling to clinics throughout the region. May need to lift up to 25 pounds of supplies. It also requires occasional in-state travel, as well as some out-of-state travel.
