Job summary

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department is seeking a part-time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to support WIC mothers with breastfeeding education and encouragement across main and satellite clinics.

Responsibilities include counseling at certification, sharing educational materials, tracking visits, and coordinating with the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor program while maintaining confidentiality and following OCCHD policies.

Qualifications

• Good communication skills and ability to present nutrition education
• Ability to counsel and support WIC participants and families
• Maintain confidentiality and follow OCCHD policies
• Proficient in basic computer use and documentation in records

Responsibilities

• Support WIC mothers during breastfeeding experience
• Counsel new WIC mothers at certification
• Promote breastfeeding to participants
• Provide information and correct misinformation
• Share WIC-approved materials with participants
• Document counseling in clinic records within 24 hours
• Attend Breastfeeding Peer Counselor meetings and trainings
• Drive to off-site clinics as needed
• Participate in OCCHD Emergency Preparedness and Response activities
