Job summary

Florida Department of Health in Fort Myers is seeking a part-time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to support WIC participants by providing breastfeeding education, counseling, and resources across Lee County locations.

As an OPS position, you will work approximately 20 hours per week, with some evenings and weekends required. You will support families, maintain confidentiality, and coordinate with local WIC staff to promote breastfeeding.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• Able to work evening on-call and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers on breastfeeding issues in clinic or by phone.
• Work ~20 hours per week in assigned clinic; available to clients by phone outside normal hours.
• Manage caseload and make contacts with clients as assigned.
• Provide breastfeeding information and support to help establish breastfeeding.
• Keep client information confidential.
• Assist with breastfeeding classes and support groups.
• Maintain accurate records of contacts with WIC clients.
• Refer complex cases to other staff when needed.
• Promote breastfeeding through projects and duties as assigned.
• Complete required paperwork and communicate with supervisor as needed.
