Job summary

Georgia Department of Public Health in Georgia seeks a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to support pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in the WIC program across Greene and Morgan Counties. This hourly, part-time role focuses on education, encouragement, and ongoing support.

Under WIC Nutrition Services Director, you will share your breastfeeding experience to educate and empower participants, while coordinating with staff and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• Has breastfed at least one child for a minimum of six months.
• Is a current or former WIC participant.
• Available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, including at least 8 hours in a designated Health Department.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be able to travel between Greene and Morgan County Health Department.
• Has good verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Has basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic breastfeeding education, encouragement, and support to pregnant and breastfeeding women participating in the WIC Program.
• Offer information and resources to help mothers meet their breastfeeding goals.
• Communicate regularly with WIC participants to provide support and answer basic breastfeeding questions.
• Refer participants with complex breastfeeding concerns to appropriate WIC staff or healthcare providers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and perform basic computer data entry.
• Collaborate with WIC staff to promote breastfeeding education and support services.
