UTHealth Houston in Texas seeks a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to promote breastfeeding through one-on-one counseling and class instruction. You will support mothers with evidence-based guidance, help set breastfeeding goals, and provide resources within the WIC program.

The role requires documenting interactions, coordinating with lactation consultants, and occasional after-hours work. Bilingual Spanish is preferred; breastfeeding experience is valued.

Qualifikationen

• Must be from the target population and able to be trained as a paraprofessional.
• Currently breastfeeding or has breastfed at least one baby.
• Ability to work outside regular clinic hours.
• Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Aufgaben

• Promote and encourage breastfeeding through individual counseling and teaching classes.
• Provide evidence-based information and support to pregnant and breastfeeding women.
• Conduct follow-up calls to answer questions and ensure positive breastfeeding outcomes.
• Teach breastfeeding classes for pregnant and breastfeeding women in the WIC program.
• Document all encounters accurately and refer to lactation consultants as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
