Job summary

Christus Health in Texas is seeking a WIC Peer Counselor to provide breastfeeding information and support for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women in the WIC program. You will role model, counsel, and teach breastfeeding techniques, offering one-to-one and class/group support in the WIC clinic.

Responsibilities include teaching classes, promoting breastfeeding, counseling at multiple touchpoints, and ensuring accurate client records while coordinating referrals when breastfeeding issues

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Candidates must have breastfed or expressed breastmilk for at least one baby.
• Must be or have been a WIC participant.

Responsibilities

• Teach classes on breastfeeding advantages and management.
• Provide information and promote breastfeeding to peers.
• Counsel pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers one-to-one and via follow-up calls.
• Identify and refer non‑norm breastfeeding experiences when needed.
• Provide encouragement and support during normal breastfeeding.
• Maintain proper client records.
• Adhere to CORE values of Santa Rosa Health Care.
