Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Welder for a contract-to-hire role in Prior Lake, MN. The position focuses on MIG welding, layout, tacking, fabrication, and assembly of custom products in a job shop environment.

The role requires reading blueprints, using a tape measure, and adhering to safety procedures with PPE. First shift, onsite in Prior Lake, with a 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. schedule and occasional overtime.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in MIG welding in a production/shop setting.
  • Able to read blueprints, project plans and written instructions.
  • Strong blueprint reading to understand weld symbols and fabrication requirements.
  • Capable of using a tape measure and applying shop math for layout.
  • Knowledge of welding safety procedures and consistent PPE use.
  • Experience in welding and fabrication shop or job shop environment.
  • Welding degree or hands-on welding experience.

Job Title: Welder Job Description

The Welder plays a key role in a custom job shop environment, performing MIG welding, layout, tacking, fabrication, and assembly to manufacture a variety of products built to order. This position follows detailed product specifications and project plans to produce high-quality welded components while adhering to all safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform MIG welding on a variety of custom products in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Carry out layout, tacking, fabrication, and building functions to assemble components and finished products.
  • Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions to determine required materials, measurements, and welding procedures.
  • Use tape measures and apply shop math to accurately measure, cut, and fit materials prior to welding.
  • Follow welding safety procedures at all times and consistently use provided personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work effectively in a job shop environment where products are designed and built to order, adapting to different projects and requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of assigned jobs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including welding bays and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production and shop operations.
Essential Skills

Work Environment

The role is based in a welding and fabrication shop with approximately 20 welding bays, some of which are shared on first shift. The standard first shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with 10-minute breaks at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., and a lunch break at 12:00 p.m. Work is performed primarily while standing, often for up to two hours at a time between breaks, and involves regular use of welding equipment, measuring tools, and fabrication tools in a job shop environment where all products are designed to order. Appropriate PPE, including safety glasses and work shoes, is required and supported through reimbursement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Prior Lake, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
