Job summary

FORKEY CONSTRUCTION & FABRICATION INC. is seeking a Weld Parts Cleaner-Grinder for 1st and 2nd shifts in Cortland, NY.

You will clean and grind welds, remove slag, and prepare parts for finishing while following safety protocols and using hand and power tools. Responsibilities include inspecting parts for defects, operating grinders, maintaining a tidy work area, and collaborating with welders and QA to meet specifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in welding support, metal fabrication, or a related manufacturing role.
• Ability to safely operate grinding and cleaning tools.
• Basic understanding of welding processes and terminology.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle manual tasks involving hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Inspect welded parts for defects, slag, and excess material that require cleaning or grinding.
• Operate grinding machines, hand grinders, and other tools to smooth weld seams and prepare parts for finishing.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Collaborate with welders and quality control personnel to meet production standards and specifications.
• Perform routine maintenance on grinding equipment and report any malfunctions or safety concerns.
• Follow all safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Document work performed and report progress or issues to supervisors as required.
