Qualifications

• College degree
• 1 year of experience in registration
• CPAR or CHAA certification preferred
• Experience using patient registration systems, insurance verification systems, and Medicaid portals
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Word
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated arithmetic and word problem-solving skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
• Ability to travel to support multiple locations or departments
• Uphold a high level of customer service at all locations

Responsibilities

• Communicates with patients, families, physicians, and insurance companies to obtain information and verify insurance for patient care and payment of hospital accounts.
• Interviews patients and families to obtain complete demographic and financial information.
• Enters data for registration, billing, patient tracking, charge capture, and reconciliation.
• Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorizations when applicable.
• Explains regulatory financial requirements and collects deposits/deductibles as required.
• Assists in data capture to produce clean claims and prevent denials.
• Serves as liaison between patients and staff, communicating procedures and delays.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and creates patient charts; handles paperwork and correspondence.
• Schedules patient appointments and coordinates referrals, procedures, and provider visits.
• Attends department meetings and may participate in quality and service improvement teams.
• Provides on-the-job training and supports teammates in completing complex tasks.
• Prescreens doctor orders for new patients to ensure scheduling is complete and appropriate.
