Job summary

Dept Behavioral Health/Develop in Virginia is seeking part-time Psychiatric Care Technicians (PCTs) to work 8–12 hour weekend shifts at Western State Hospital. Candidates must commit to a minimum of 64 hours per month and holiday hours, under supervision of licensed nursing staff, delivering recovery-oriented care to individuals with mental health needs.

Shifts offer differential pay by period, with weekend and holiday increments.

Qualifications

• Ability to provide direct psychiatric patient care under supervision of licensed staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff and psychiatric patients.
• Ability to work in a secure environment with individuals experiencing acute symptoms.
• Follow instructions and report observations to licensed staff in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Provide recovery-oriented direct care in a hospital setting.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment.
• Support and motivate patients to engage in treatment plans.
• Deliver treatment programs to individuals and groups with mental illness or related issues.
• Take clients’ vital signs and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage behavior and milieu.
