Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks a part-time Registered Nurse at Western State Hospital to deliver direct patient care in a 24/7 psychiatric setting. The RN will work 4-, 8-, or 12-hour shifts on weekends, with required holiday coverage and potential overtime in a therapeutic environment.

The role emphasizes teamwork, patient safety, accurate documentation, and adherence to policies. You must hold an unrestricted VA RN license and maintain BLS certification while supporting diverse patient needs.

Qualifications

• Current unrestricted RN license eligible in Virginia.
• Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team.
• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Maintain accountability in a secure, therapeutic environment.
• Support adult acute, geriatric and extended rehabilitation units.
• Document patient care and communications in the EHR.
• Supervise unit staff including PCTs and LPNs.
• Assist patients with ADLs and one-on-one observations.
• Apply de-escalation techniques to manage behaviors.
• Administer medications and treatments.
• Communicate patient status and care plans with the team.
