Commonwealth of Virginia’s Western State Hospital seeks Psychiatric Care Technicians (PCTs) and Certified Nursing Aides (CNAs) for 2nd and 3rd shift. Positions require delivering direct patient care, adhering to care policies, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment in a 24/7 psychiatric hospital.

Shift differentials apply and background checks are required. Full-time classified staff work two 12-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts weekly, with every-other weekend, holidays, and overtime

Qualifications

• Direct psychiatric patient care under supervision of licensed staff.
• Ability to document observations and communicate effectively.
• Familiarity with recovery/trauma-informed care is preferred.
• Basic lifesaving and safety training required (BLS, CPR).
• Willingness to learn about development and psychiatric disorders and patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Monitor and document vital signs in the EHR.
• Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
• Provide one-on-one direct observations.
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage behavioral situations.
• Administer CPR and perform approved physical interventions.
• Serve meals and maintain cleanliness in patient areas.
• Observe and report interventions, treatments, and patient well-being.
• Escort patients to appointments and classes.
